Oracle Database Migration to Linux
As stated in Technical Bulletin 351, released Sept. 30, 2004, ITS will be migrating the shared Oracle database environments from the mainframe and HP-UX platforms to dedicated LINUX database servers.

The reasons are two fold:

  • The migration will give Oracle customers the most efficiency and functionality for the price.
  • LINUX is Oracle’s preferred platform. ITS personnel have been providing dedicated database environments on this platform for several months and feel confident that this platform will provide a dependable, robust environment for the shared Oracle databases.

ITS is committed to working with each agency to complete migrations in a timely manner. The deadline for migrations from HP-UX is June 30, 2005. Mainframe migrations need to be completed by December 31, 2005. Although the mainframe and HP-UX Oracle databases will be supported until the dates specified, only minimal database upgrades will be implemented on these platforms while the migration takes place.

Migration Information

ITS Database Administration is asking Oracle customers to review the objects stored in the mainframe and HP-UX databases and identify any obsolete schemas and tablespaces.

To request that obsolete schemas and tablespaces be removed or to have new schemas created on LINUX servers please contact us at dbase@utah.gov.
